Been a while, but I’ll try and pick things back up again.

I’ve been playing around with my phone (HTC HD2) and have come across a way to dual boot between Windows Mobile and Android. Absolutely loving Android ! Spending all my time using it and never using WM. And as for the apps……..In fact, I’m writing this from my phone using a WordPress app.

More soon as I come across new stuff.

For anyone who likes to get their cashback when shopping on the net, or for those who haven’t come across this fantastic ‘free’ money yet, take a look at Top Cashback (only applicable in the UK, I’m afraid). Top Cashback is, in my opinion, the best of the cashback sites in the UK. They seem to have the best offers and are very dependable. I go through them for absolutely everything that I but on the internet and it’s amazing how the money mounts up ! It is especially good if you do things like car insurance through them – there are serious amounts of money to be redeemed – take a look here (note – this is an affiliate link – didn’t want anyone to think I was sneaking it in !).

If you are purchasing anything on the internet, it seems crazy not to see if you can get cashback for it !

Speed up your boot time

There’s a great new piece of software that I’ve come across called Soluto. Once downloaded and installed (it’s free, of course !), next time you boot your PC or laptop, it analyses the boot process and gives you details on how long everything took. The processes are divided into three sections: No Brainer, Potentially Removable and Required – cannot be removed. You can look into details of each process and choose whether to Pause (effectively remove it from your start-up routine), Delay (set it to start up once boot process has completed) or leave things just as they are. For each process, there is also a description of what the process is and a recommendation of what you should do.

It’s very simple to use, looks great and does a very good job of tweaking your boot time – well worth five minutes of your time !

Backup, backup, backup…………

I’ve mentioned this before, but backing up your important files is often one of those neglected tasks that is only ever thought of when it is too late ! A regular backup schedule is crucial for everyone – not just for techie geeks. The problem is, for those non-techie-geeks, a lot of the backup software is a little daunting. Enter FBackup. This is a gloriously simple application which does exactly what it says on the tin – it backs up anything you want with a single click. It can even back up open or locked files which is often something that stymies some of the more comprehensive back-up solutions. The other brilliant thing about FBackup is it’s price – free !

Seriously, you’ve nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving this a try. Do it today – it may just save your bacon !

Check alternative prices while surfing

I’ve just come across a great add-on for Firefox that tells you what other prices are available for the product you are looking for without having to check a price comparison site. Just underneath your bookmarks bar, you get tabs that appear telling you which retailer has the best price and what the prices are for other retailers. You can go directly to any retailer from there. It covers over 50 retailers in both the US and the UK.

Simple and very effective. Take a look and install it from here.

Missing album artwork from iTunes/Songbird, etc ??

There are various different ways to track down errant album artwork so that your music collection is complete, but one of the easiest, that I have only just come across is 5byfive. Enter in the name of the album and the artwork pops up. If it doesn’t get it first time, you can add in other details, band name, etc. I can’t think of anything simpler. Haven’t extensively tested it yet, but what I’ve seen so far impresses me.
